About the Business

Main Street Initiative: Funds and Resources

Selected grantees will receive a total of $30,000 to grow and sustain their businesses, impact their community, and support retirement savings for themselves and their employees. Funds can be used according to certain requirements, further detailed below.

In addition, grantees will have access to resources to assist them with their proposed use of funds and more generally with business growth, community impact, and future savings.

Grantees will be expected to actively engage with the Main Street Initiative, which includes meetings with the program team and specialists, and reporting on progress and outcomes. The anticipated time commitment is 4-7 hours per month, over the course of six months. Meetings with administrators and specialists will take place either in-person, remotely, or a combination of both.

Grow and Sustain Your Business

Grantees can spend a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $15,000 of grant funds for business development and/or greening initiatives. Below are short answer questions.

      Support Your Retirement

      Grantees may use grant funds on initiatives that have a positive impact on retirement savings for the business owner(s) and employees. This could include, for example, covering certain costs associated with establishing and maintaining a retirement plan and/or costs of financial education materials, programs and events for employees about general financial wellness topics like saving for retirement.

      I request business management counseling from a Small Business Administration resource partner, the Small Business Development Center. I request counseling and assistance from the St. Louis Small Business Empowerment Center (“SBEC”), New Leaf Climate Partners, and Edward D. Jones & Co., L.P. (together, the “Mentors”). In consideration of the provision of grant funds from SBEC, and counseling and assistance by representatives of the Mentors, I agree to release and waive all claims arising out of the grant funds disbursement, and the counseling and assistance provided by any of The Jones Financial Companies, L.L.L.P. and its affiliated organizations, SBEC, and New Leaf Climate Partners (each an “Organization”), and any representative of an Organization.

      I self-certify that I am not currently debarred, suspended or declared ineligible from doing business with any federal department or agency.

      I self-certify that I am current on my tax payments.

      If selected, I permit the name and logo of my business to be used in external promotions about the Main Street Initiative. Each Organization may elect to co-brand external communications with the small business upon request, including but not limited to, marketing collateral, press releases, and publications. Each Organization will have the ability to reference my business and use my business’s approved logo (in accordance with brand guidelines) in its marketing materials as a partner.

The Organizations may conduct due diligence to include that I: have paid taxes on time (federal, state, and local income tax; sales tax); Obey local zoning and permitting requirements; Keep business and professional licenses current.
